Michael Mello | Founder & Owner

MCM_Headshot_-_Prime

Michael has owned and operated MCM in Fall River, MA for nearly 40 years. During this time, he has demonstrated a passion for helping our clients navigate the complex regulatory environment and optimize their overall tax strategy. Before founding the firm, Michael began his professional career as an auditor with present day Ernst & Young, where he worked on some of Rhode Island’s largest corporate accounts, including GTECH, Providence Washington Insurance Company, Allendale Insurance Company, Old Stone Bank, and A.T. Cross Company.

After spending many years in public accounting and earning his Certified Public Accountant license, Michael elected to serve the small and medium enterprise market in the New England area. This not only allowed him to be closer to his family, but also to be closer to his clients, which has always been central to the mission of MCM.

Michael provides oversight over the entire firm; however, his specialization is in providing strategic tax advice, as well as navigating an often complex regulatory environment. Michael has helped hundreds of our clients optimize their tax structure, minimize their overall tax liability and resolve tax distress. He is well recognized in Massachusetts and Rhode Island as an exceptional tax mind helping individuals, trusts, corporations, partnerships and non-profits with Federal and state matters. Simply put, he helps our clients sleep at night.
Over the years, Michael has found ways to give back to the local community through active involvement in various local organizations since 1983. He has volunteered his accounting and tax services to various non-profit organizations during his years in practice. In addition to coaching dozens of teams, he has served as president and treasurer of the Somerset Basketball League, treasurer of both the Swansea/Somerset Youth Soccer League and the Somerset Girls Softball League, and board member of the Somerset Senior Girls Softball League and Somerset Little League. He also serves as treasurer of Somerset Access Television, Inc., the town’s non-profit public access channel.
Michael graduated summa cum laude from Boston College with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting. As a student at BC, Michael helped his family open Rainbow Paint and Wallpaper Co., an interior décor shop in Somerset which closed its doors in 2018 after 40 successful years in business where he served as president during that time.
He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA), and the Rhode Island Society of Certified Public Accountants (RICPA).
Michael has been married to his wife Susan for 40 years. They have three children; Christopher, Doctor Margaret Moniz and Marissa.
